The Lead Renovator (RRP) Initial Certification Course is an 8-hour, EPA-approved training program designed for contractors performing renovation, repair, or painting in pre-1978 homes and child-occupied facilities. This certification ensures compliance with EPA’s Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Rule and HUD’s Lead Safe Housing Rule by teaching participants how to safely work in environments containing lead-based paint. The course covers lead exposure risks, regulatory requirements, lead-safe work practices, containment methods, cleaning and waste disposal, record-keeping procedures, and training of non-certified renovation workers. Participants will also engage in hands-on training, followed by a final review and examination to earn their Certified Renovator status under the EPA or an authorized state program.
